Pure calcium wire plays a key role in steel smelting, and its main functions can be attributed to the following aspects:
 

1. Deoxygenation effect
During the smelting process, the dissolved oxygen in the molten steel can significantly affect the quality of the steel and easily form defects such as pores and inclusions. Pure calcium wire, as a powerful deoxidizer, can react chemically with oxygen in molten steel to generate stable calcium oxide, effectively reducing oxygen content. This process not only improves the purity of the molten steel, but also helps reduce porosity and inclusions in the final product, thereby improving the overall quality of the steel.

2. Desulfurization effect
Sulfur is a harmful element in steel, and excessive content can cause steel to become brittle and reduce its toughness. Pure calcium wire can react with sulfur in molten steel to generate calcium sulfide, thereby significantly reducing sulfur content. Through desulfurization treatment, not only does it improve the toughness and high-temperature performance of steel, but it also reduces the risk of cracking during subsequent hot processing.

3. Control the morphology of inclusions
The addition of pure calcium wire can transform high melting point aluminum salts and other inclusions in steel into low melting point calcium aluminum salt composite inclusions, making them more prone to plastic deformation during rolling and heat treatment, thereby avoiding stress concentration and performance degradation caused by hard inclusions. This process is commonly referred to as "calcium treatment" and is particularly important for improving the toughness and fatigue performance of steel.

4. Improve the fluidity of molten steel
Through deoxidation, desulfurization, and inclusion morphology control, pure calcium wire helps purify molten steel and optimize its physical properties, thereby improving the fluidity of molten steel. This is very advantageous for subsequent processes such as continuous casting, as it can reduce nozzle blockage, ensure smooth casting process and billet quality.

5. Improve the comprehensive performance of steel
In summary, pure calcium wire has comprehensively improved the mechanical properties, processing performance, and service life of steel by deeply purifying the molten steel (deoxidation, desulfurization) and regulating the morphology of inclusions, making it more suitable for applications requiring high strength and toughness.
